I'm Derek, HUBB to just about everyone, and I travel nationwide to fix that moment. I do close-up sleight of hand for conferences, hospitality suites and corporate receptions. I won the Magic Castle's Strolling Showdown, I perform every Sunday at Magic at the Library in the Hollywood Roosevelt's Library Bar, and I've worked corporate events for Amazon, Meta and Universal.
The Mental Refresh: a session, not another speaker
The Mental Refresh sits right on your agenda next to the breakouts. Instead of a second keynote or another motivational speaker, attendees walk into my Sleight & Spirits speakeasy, brought to your hotel.
Nothing against keynote speakers. But by the middle of a long meeting week, your attendees have been talked at for days. What they need is a reset. They walk in, lean in close and come back sharper, and actually talking to each other.
Use it between breakouts, midweek when the room needs it most, or as a networking break.
Sleight & Spirits in two distinct formats
- Speakeasy Stage Show. The atmosphere of the speakeasy bar on a theatrical stage. Multiple live cameras project to a larger room so everyone feels like they're sitting at the bar. Built for ballrooms and general sessions.
- Speakeasy Experience. An intimate speakeasy with handcrafted cocktails, interactive miracles and unforgettable moments. Guests flow through the bar in small groups, a perfect social centerpiece for mixers and receptions.
Both run with or without drink service.

Trade show days are long. By five o'clock your guests have walked a few miles of convention floor. The last thing they want is another presentation.
Strolling is walk-around sleight of hand for conference networking, VIP receptions and hospitality suites. A card signed by your top prospect, vanishing and showing up under their drink. Sixty seconds, a big laugh, and your sales team has a real conversation starter. Book it on its own or pair it with either Speakeasy format.

Do you travel for conferences?
Yes. I'm based in Southern California and travel nationwide, including Las Vegas, Chicago, New York, Austin, Dallas, Scottsdale and beyond.
How is The Mental Refresh different from booking a keynote or motivational speaker?
It fills the same slot on your agenda, but nobody's being talked at. Attendees step into a speakeasy, watch sleight of hand inches away and walk back into the afternoon awake.
What do you need for setup?
The setup is self-contained. Strolling needs nothing but your crowd. The Speakeasy Experience needs space for the bar. The Speakeasy Stage Show needs a stage and a screen for the live cameras. I'll send a clean tech rider.
How long does it run?
As long as your agenda needs. A single session between breakouts, a full reception, or strolling through a hospitality suite all evening.
Does it work for mixed or international audiences?
Yes. The magic happens in their hands, so it doesn't depend on language or inside jokes. Conference crowds from different teams and countries are exactly where it helps people start talking.
Can it pair with the hotel's drink service?
Yes. Sleight & Spirits runs with or without drink service, so it works with whatever bar setup your venue has.
Can we book more than one format at the same event?
Yes. Strolling pairs with either Speakeasy format. For example, The Mental Refresh as an afternoon session and strolling at that night's reception.
How far in advance should we book?
As soon as your dates are set. Conference weeks fill early, but reach out even if you're close in and I'll tell you straight.
